The Uncornered Model
Uncornered has a proven model for stopping shootings and ending violence.
Data has shown that less than 1% of a city’s population is connected to over 50 percent of its shootings and homicides (Bloomberg).
Uncornered harnesses a proven, data-based model to analyze violence street by street and corner by corner to transform a city’s most violent, disruptive, and neglected residents, who we call Core Influencers, into agents of change who lead their cities to peace.
Uncornered provides Core Influencers with the support, resources, and empowerment to harness their influence for good. Along their journey, Core Influencers across our Uncornered cities receive:
- Financial and mental health support: A regular stipend for Catalysts covers basic needs and offers stability so they can focus on their growth, and mental health support helps them learn to open up and ask for help
- College & career resources: Leads empower Catalysts to re-engage education pathways in their own neighborhoods that prepare Catalysts for employment
- Coaching and mentorship: Leads prepare Catalysts to engage and guide active gang-involved young adults in their Networks on a journey from the street corner to college and careers
- The power of hope for greater impact: Above all, we truly believe in and foster the expertise and value of active and former gang-involved individuals to become agents of change for their cities
The proven impact of redirecting the entrepreneurial, networking, and leadership skills of Core Influencers from violence and incarceration to educational pathways and employment shifts social norms across their neighborhoods. The result is a city where everyone can live without fear of violence and its sweeping impacts, instead offering hope and opportunity for all residents.
